Improvement
Patch 2.39.0
The complete notes for this update.
New features
- Published scenarios now have an Updates tab where owners can post updates and readers can follow the update feed. Creator Updates also appears on profiles, supports posts up to 10,000 characters, includes formatting, and shows a Retry option when a feed fails to load.
- Added a new reusable script library called Adventure Scripts. Creators can mark a scripted scenario as a Script, save and discover Scripts like any other content, and attach, reorder, or toggle them on scenarios and adventures, up to 10 per adventure.
- Creators can pin Story Cards to prioritize their entries in the AI's context on every turn. Pinned cards have a dedicated section and indicator, retain their state when duplicated, imported, exported, or carried into Adventures, and appear in context details when included or unable to fit.
- Creators can restore Story Cards deleted from an adventure or scenario for up to 24 hours from the same device through the Recently Deleted menu. Individual deletions also offer immediate Undo, and editor controls are temporarily blocked during loading or duplication to prevent conflicting actions.
- A new Story Markdown option under Appearance > Behavior now renders links, bold, italic, and strikethrough text. Raw Model Output remains unchanged and displays the model's exact text.
- Direct messages now support emoji reactions, searchable and personalized emoji choices, `:shortcode:` entry, and replies with quoted message excerpts that players can jump to.
- Content card menus now group related actions and provide clearer options such as "Not interested," "Interested," and "Tip Creator." Selecting "Not interested" includes an Undo option and controls for muting creators or topics, tuning recommendations, and reporting content. Destructive actions are now separated and visually distinct, while actions that keep the menu open still behave as expected.
- Adventures can now be sorted by "Most Actions" through Advanced Filters.
- Patch notes now include a Leave Feedback button.
- Players can now buy 75,000 Credits for $499.99 through Stripe on the web. This Credit pack is not available through the app stores.
Improvements
- Logged-in players can adjust safety settings, content ratings, and Discovery filters without email verification, including mature or unrated selections and the Creators You Follow filter.
- Discovery now only shows the Unrated filter on surfaces that support unrated content, with updated guidance when that option is unavailable.
- Navigation search now recognizes included #tags, excluded -#tags, and @usernames, with up to three tag filters per search. The field clears after submission, and searches started from an existing search page retain that page's context.
- Adventure searches are faster and more reliable for large personal libraries, including libraries with private multiplayer adventures. Stable pagination prevents adventures with matching sort values from being repeated or skipped.
- Creator update feeds are now centered within profile pages for a more balanced layout.
- Mini-profile cards now have profile banners, updated stats and actions, improved mobile sizing, and more accessible controls. Creator links across content and social surfaces more consistently open either the mini-profile or full profile.
- Mobile public profiles now show contextual Back navigation when viewing another player, while your own profile retains the main mobile navigation bar.
- Messages now open with animated navigation between Social, the inbox, and conversations. Drafts persist when layouts change, and unread counts and notification muting more accurately reflect whether a conversation is visible.
- Direct messages now use a clearer grouped layout with avatars, names, timestamps, date and unread dividers, and profile badges. Follow-up messages show timestamps on hover or touch.
- Followers more reliably receive notifications when creators first publish AI Dungeon Scenarios, even if delivery is interrupted and retried.
- Free accounts now show Free instead of Wanderer or Traveler on the profile membership badge.
- Social notifications now use more natural wording, handle long text without displacing timestamps, and provide screen-reader labels that match their visible content.
- Android notification preferences now stay synchronized with system channels for direct messages, play invitations, world updates, and platform updates. If Android disables a channel, the matching in-app setting turns off, while re-enabling a disabled or deleted channel creates a working replacement.
- When the social panel has no activity, it now links directly to the AI Dungeon Discord and subreddit instead of suggesting Voyage. Friend-link sharing remains available.
- Story narration is no longer subject to hourly or daily limits (previously 120 chunks per hour and 500 per day).
- Scenarios without their own story cards now explain that they inherit cards from the first parent scenario in their lineage that has story cards.
- Content rating overrides now use a compact dropdown directly in the publishing confirmation row, including on mobile.
- Publishing rating rows now leave consistent space for the Details button, and mobile scenario editing keeps pill tabs and titles aligned within the page. This makes publishing and editing layouts easier to use on smaller screens.
- Daily streak claims now reset at midnight in the player's local time instead of 23.5 hours after the previous claim, with at least six hours required between claims to prevent extra claims through time-zone changes. Players can claim once per calendar day and can miss up to two days before their streak resets.
- Account email changes now prompt for password confirmation directly when your sign-in is too old. OAuth-only accounts receive clearer provider guidance, and failed verification or account synchronization no longer appears successful.
- Accounts submitted under the current deletion policy are permanently deleted after a 24-hour waiting period, while older requests retain their 30-day schedule. Deletion now more reliably cleans up user-owned data and remains reliable when multiple workers are active.
- Popup notifications now format backtick-wrapped commands and configuration references as inline code, shown in the primary accent color for easier reading.
- The over-18 confirmation modal now stacks its buttons vertically, providing more room for long labels and keeping both actions consistently sized.
- Long selection menus, including the AI Instructions selector, now stay within the available screen space and scroll instead of overflowing.
- Horizontal pill tabs on the web now scroll more smoothly, remain correctly sized on hover, and show more accurate edge fades.
- Content, scenarios, filters, carousels, and profiles are easier to use with keyboards and screen readers. Focus indicators, selected states, loading information, navigation labels, and card overflow controls are also clearer.
- Navigation feels faster by prefetching cards, profile links, and main destinations before selection.
- Interface and gameplay fonts now use more efficient files for faster loading, with improved font-weight matching.
- Release Channel settings now show a shortened identifier labeled "Build." Update prompts now appear only for compatibility changes, reducing unnecessary reloads after compatible deployments.
- Connecting screens now consistently show the correct product name and community link for AI Dungeon.
- The public status page now provides clearer details about affected services, AI capabilities, latency, and error rates when AI Dungeon is not fully operational.
Bug fixes
- Fixed an issue where long adventures intermittently used less story context history than intended. This fix should also improve context utilization, long-range continuity, and memory formation.
- Story edits and generation are now blocked while another response or blocking action is in progress, preventing conflicting submissions. The editor remains available if an edit cannot safely proceed.
- The story editor no longer closes when players click its visible border or background, including while editing the final line near the footer. Gameplay command rows, model lists, story edits, and input text also fit and align more consistently.
- Scrolling to an earlier part of a story no longer causes the page to jump back to the latest content when the page height changes.
- The Follow Latest Text toggle now behaves correctly when a response starts streaming: when disabled, the view stays at the beginning of the new response and no longer scrolls unexpectedly when erasing, undoing, or opening the Action menu; when enabled, it continues following the latest text to the bottom.
- Provider quota and rate-limit messages no longer appear as generated story text.
- Temporary guest sessions now show Guest (Your Plan) in the model list instead of an incorrect or missing premium plan name.
- Adventures started from child scenarios now inherit scripts from the nearest ancestor when needed. Duplicated adventures also keep valid, pinned script attachments instead of continuing to follow another creator's latest publication.
- Adventures with an `onOutput` script now wait until the script finishes modifying generated text before displaying the final response. Script safety checks also cover shared-library code used by Auto-Cards.
- Persistent script warnings now appear only once per cause during an adventure instead of repeating every turn.
- Story Card editors now close promptly while saving changes locally and queuing server synchronization. Closing an unchanged or empty draft no longer risks leaving a loading overlay, and focus retries no longer reopen gameplay input unexpectedly.
- Social notifications from system accounts now include the account name when needed, such as "AI Dungeon published a new scenario."
- Opening a notification for content that no longer exists now shows a clear message and returns you to the notifications list instead of the home page.
- The notifications dropdown now fits the available screen area, respects device safe areas, and keeps its actions accessible while the notification list scrolls.
- Google and Apple registration no longer opens an unnecessary second popup, preventing popup-blocked errors and allowing existing provider credentials to complete sign-in correctly.
- Persisted sign-in sessions now restore more reliably when authentication is slow or temporarily fails, reducing unexpected anonymous sessions and logged-out states.
- Homepage carousel order values of 0 are now applied correctly instead of falling back to another order.
- Advanced filter drafts now reset when players switch discovery sections or routes, preventing filters from one section from being applied to another.
- Selecting a content or scenario tab is no longer reverted when a URL parameter is removed at the same time.
- Repeated clicks are less likely to create duplicate browser history entries, and navigation can recover more reliably from route errors.
- Selecting a saved AI Instructions set now fully closes the selection menu before opening a confirmation dialog.
- iOS layouts resize more reliably after rotation or viewport changes, reducing incorrectly sized screens and scroll-position issues.
- Horizontally scrollable section tabs no longer become transparent inside native app containers.
- Discord links now open the permanent server invite instead of leaving players on the homepage.
- Buttons, selected states, focus rings, sliders, and informational accents now use the correct AI Dungeon gold instead of white.
- On iPhone, gameplay inputs, chat panels, editors, settings, and other keyboard-lifted controls now follow the keyboard smoothly. Android also avoids keyboard animation flickers and more reliably keeps fields visible.
- Story and prior-action editors now expand to fit their content and keep the caret visible above the mobile keyboard and gameplay controls. Long edits scroll more reliably without clipped text, blank gaps, accidental exits, or unexpected jumps.
- Repeat web visits load navigation faster without briefly showing the wrong navigation or shifting the page sideways.
