REMANENCE — Memory & Living Minds

REMANENCE Memory & Living Minds A clue found hours ago. A promise still waiting to be kept. A secret one person knows and another doesn't. REMANENCE is an automatic memory script for AI Dungeon, built for stories where earlier events should still matter. It keeps selected details from your adventure and brings them back when the conversation calls for them, while keeping each character's knowledge, beliefs and motives attached to that character. PLAY AS YOU NORMALLY WOULD There are no startup commands or special turns to manage. Continue your story, talk to the characters and follow the plot. REMANENCE works in the background using the story, existing Story Cards and available Plot Essentials. WHAT STAYS WITH THE STORY • Details worth returning to Clues, addresses, medical details, access codes and other supported evidence can be retained beyond recent history. Useful older excerpts move into an episode archive, which is searched alongside active memory. • Facts that can change A character can move house, change location or hand over an item. Supported changes update current state. Ask about the past and retained earlier values can return with clear historical labels. • Separate character perspectives An NPC who learns a code can remember it. Another character's presence or relationship does not automatically give them the same knowledge. Beliefs and suspicions remain attached to their owner and may be wrong. • Motives with continuity Clear goals, feelings and intentions can be captured from narration. Optional inferred updates use the ordinary story response, with evidence checks and no extra generation. • Relationships and unfinished business Explicit connections help find related details. Supported promises can remain open until the story establishes a matching completion. The script leaves the outcome to the story and your choices to you. • Recall guided by your next move Ask about an old clue or a specific detail and that question helps choose what returns. Related excerpts from the same earlier event may accompany it, without turning a nearby event into a cause. MAKE IT FIT YOUR ADVENTURE Two configuration cards appear automatically: REMANENCE — Memory Controls identity, capture, storage, archive, recall, delivery and feedback. REMANENCE — Minds Controls NPC discovery, knowledge, beliefs, motivations and optional inferred updates. Edit the settings in each card's Entry. Every option is explained in Notes, with its default and allowed values. Keep both configuration cards unpinned. You can hide status messages, reduce recall size or use direct narration alone. OPTIMISED CONTEXT Automatic delivery uses a compact native Recall card when AI Dungeon reports Optimised Context. Normal Context delivery remains available, and the delivery mode can be chosen in the Memory card. The Recall card is maintained and requests native pinning automatically. Native pin and context limits still apply; check View Context for the REMANENCE MEMORY block. If your runtime cannot pin it automatically, use the Recall card's pin control and allow an ordinary turn for selection to catch up. Leave the two configuration cards unpinned. GETTING STARTED Enable scripting in your scenario and paste the matching files into Library, Input, Context and Output. Save all four, then start an adventure and play normally. Give the player a clear name or player-character marker so their choices stay outside NPC mind updates. Memory is selective and bounded. Clear names and explicit narration help; unavailable old history cannot be recovered automatically. GITHUB - https://github.com/amazingrand0mproductions-crypto/REMANENCE
