Branching Engine
A simple script that stops the AI from always taking the obvious path The AI tends to pick the most predictable continuation every time. NPCs agree, fights go by the book, scenes start to repeat. Crossroads is a small script, but it changes how stories feel. *For proper operation, a response length of at least 250 characters is recommended. This is important. How it works Each turn, the script quietly asks the AI to come up with 4 different ways the story could continue from this exact moment. Each option must be plausible and come with a short reason why it fits. Then the script rolls a die and tells the AI which option to write. The plan is removed from the output, so you only see the story. Based on the scene. The options come from what is actually happening. There are no pre-made twists that make no sense in context. Not chaotic. Options aren't ranked by surprise, and twists for their own sake are not allowed. The obvious path is still on the list; it just stops winning every time. Retry actually matters. Each retry rolls a new option, so you get a different direction instead of the same thing reworded. One generation per turn. No extra calls, no delays. Not every option will be radically different. How far the options spread depends on the scene: a quiet conversation has fewer possible paths than a tavern brawl. But overall the stories feel much more alive.
