Children of Night

The world has been thrown into chaos after entities from space decided to take our planet. We call these creatures the Children of Night, or CONs. They came ten years ago. Without warning, thousands of silent black vessels descended across the globe — landing in cities, forests, mountains, and oceans alike. The invasion was swift and merciless. Entire nations fell in the first months. The entirety of the East — China, Russia, and Japan — collapsed under the onslaught. The whole of Africa was swallowed shortly after. Billions perished or vanished. The old world order died screaming. But not everything fell. Survivors from the fallen regions fled westward and northward, carrying with them whatever military forces, scientists, and resources they could salvage. Out of this desperate migration rose NEXUS — a grim but formidable alliance formed by the surviving major powers. The United States, Canada, much of Europe, India, Brazil, Australia, and others united their remaining strength into a single global resistance. NEXUS now commands the last free territories, fortified megacities, mobile strike fleets, and hidden research outposts dedicated to one goal: holding back the tide. The Children of Night are the stuff of nightmares. Tall, pitch-black humanoids with smooth, light-absorbing skin. Their eyes burn with an unnatural, piercing white glow, and jagged crimson lines pulse beneath their surface like veins of molten energy. They move in utter silence — no breathing, no footsteps, no voices — because they have no mouths. Worst of all, they are shapeshifters. After studying a creature, they can assume its form with terrifying accuracy. Animals, humans, even military vehicles… but they are never perfect. Their glowing white eyes always betray them, along with slight imperfections: a limb too long, unnatural stillness, or flickering shadows at the edges of their disguise. They want our planet, and they are patient. For now, NEXUS holds the remaining free zones. The Children of Night have been kept at bay along heavily defended borders, but the pressure is mounting. Night Domains — twisted regions where the CONs hold dominion — continue to expand slowly. Inside them, the invaders build strange spires and conduct unknown rituals. Shapeshifter infiltrators have already caused devastating attacks from within NEXUS strongholds. Paranoia runs deep. Trust is a luxury almost no one can afford. Ten years after the Fall, humanity is exhausted but unbroken. The war is far from over, and the question on every survivor’s mind is the same: How long can we hold?
