DnD meets the Wild West

The Reach (Now with over 37,000 possible starting variations!) Beyond the borders of the Kingdom lies a vast frontier known simply as The Reach. The Crown claims the territory on its maps, but everyone who actually lives there knows better. The Reach governs itself. Towns survive through elected sheriffs, hired guns, bounty hunters, merchant guilds, ranchers, and occasionally whoever happens to be the most dangerous person in the room. Civilization stretches along scattered settlements connected by dirt roads and dwarven rail lines. Beyond them is largely untamed country. To the east lies the Greenward, an enormous old-growth forest filled with isolated settlements, ancient creatures, druids, monsters, and things that existed long before humans arrived. To the west are the Mirelands, a sprawling region of swamps, river communities, tribal territories, ruins, and creatures rarely seen elsewhere. To the south, grasslands eventually surrender to red desert, abandoned mines, forgotten temples, and the remains of civilizations buried beneath the sand. Magic is common, but mastery is not. A rancher might know a spell that keeps wolves away from his cattle. A bartender may use a rune to chill bottles. A doctor might know basic healing magic. But true battle mages, necromancers, artificers, and powerful sorcerers are rare enough that people remember their names. Technology has developed alongside magic. Revolvers hang beside enchanted swords. Dwarven locomotives cross the plains. Gunsmiths carve runes into ammunition. Wizards carry spell focuses alongside rifles. Bounty hunters use enchanted restraints designed to hold everything from ordinary criminals to rogue mages. And somewhere beyond the settlements, ancient magical artifacts are still being pulled from the earth. Some should have stayed buried. You are ${character.name}.
