The Liberation of St. Marie Du Mont

On the 6th of June, 1944, a battalion of U.S. Soldiers from the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division touched down onto French soil around the town of St. Marie Du Mont. Their goal... make a path for the 4th Infantry Division landing at Utah Beach. The ensuing engagement resulted in one of the most heroic and one of the biggest reasons to why Operation Overlord succeeded to gain a foothold in Europe.
