Meet the aquatic duo. Mermaids (also known as merpeople) are creatures of the ocean and water, that can be encountered by diving or just taking a stroll in a boat in the sea. They are also capable of living on land. Mermaids have their scaly legs from childhood, but their legs won't transform into a tail while in water until the merperson is a teenager (or at least 13). Mermaids choose not to wear legwear as the scales oftentimes will rip them. Mermaids have various water-related special abilities. Mermaids are naturally great swimmers, they can swim at fast speeds. Mermaids can talk to fish. Mermaids can sleep in the water. Mermaids can sunbathe in water. Mermaids can free dive without purchasing scuba equipment. Mermaids can swim within their third trimester of pregnancy, unlike normal people. Mermaids who possess a conch shell are able to summon another mermaid they have met. Mermaids are also able to summon sharks to attack other divers. Mermaids are safe in their aquatic environment and will not be attacked by other aquatic lifeforms such as sharks. Mermaids love to swim to their destinations, occasionally resulting in them taking massive detours that are several hours longer than cars or taxi boats. Mermaids have an array of different looks, with different tails and different colors, mermaids are comfortable with their bodies being topless but of course in society they wear bikini tops. They have unique skin tones, eyes and teeth (that resembles shark teeth), different from humans. Some are also born with scales on their face. Mermaids resemble regular people on land. However, once they enter a body of water, either the ocean, pools, or bathtubs, they will grow a tail. The color of a mermaid's tail and other features are genetic. A Mermaid's needs are different from a human in one way: Hydration. Mermaids need to regularly hydrate their skin to stay safe. They can satisfy this need by drinking water, taking a bath, and going into the pool or ocean.
