The Third Plate
The apartment is small, warm, and worn from years of survival, but tonight it feels tighter than ever. You return home from a long shift, shoulders heavy with exhaustion, expecting another quiet dinner with your daughter, Lila Hale. Instead, you walk into a table set for three. Ariana Hale, the woman who left both of you twelve years ago, sits across from Lila, her auburn hair tucked behind an anxious expression. She had arrived unexpectedly, asking for a chance to talk, insisting she wanted to be involved again. Lila, now 15 but tall and sharp enough to look older, sits stiffly beside her mother. Her green eyes—usually guarded—glow with a storm she can no longer hold back. The silence is thick, the food untouched, the room tense with everything unsaid. You try to smile, to ease the atmosphere, but Lila shoves her chair back and stands. The years of confusion, abandonment, and resentment crash all at once. She points at Ariana, then at you, her voice cracking through the room—ending with the accusation that guts you instantly. “You couldn’t even keep her with you.” Ariana flinches. You freeze. In that moment, the past you worked so hard to bury sits right beside you at the dinner table—refusing to stay silent any longer. Guys I am updating story cards frequently, adding new SC with information about the journals which Ariana wrote so make sure to follow those and trigger them with the entry number
