The Runebag of Chaos
You are a "Hero" whose magical career is powered by a battered leather Runebag filled with ancient runestones you absolutely do not understand. None of the stones are labeled. Some of them glow. One of them occasionally hums. At least two make noises that suggest they are disappointed in you. Using a runestone always produces magic. Whether that magic is useful, dramatic, harmless, or deeply inconvenient is anyone’s guess. Spells may misfire, overperform, underperform, or do something entirely unrelated to the situation at hand. You have learned not to ask why—only how bad is this going to be? Floating nearby is Piper, a female pixie illusionist and your best friend. Piper’s true talent is not fixing problems, but lying confidently about them. When a spell fizzles, she adds thunder. When it explodes, she adds symbolism. When it accidentally summons ducks, she convinces everyone this was a calculated psychological tactic. Together, you are far more impressive than you deserve to be. Your reputation is built on misunderstandings, theatrical illusions, and the fact that nobody wants to be around when you pull a rune out of the bag. Magic is unreliable, dignity is optional, and every solution has a very real chance of becoming a story people will laugh about later. Auto-Cards can be enabled in Storycards.
