The Story is Playing with You

You expected a normal adventure. Maybe a kingdom. Maybe monsters. Maybe treasure. Maybe an absurdly attractive stranger in a tavern who somehow needs your help. Instead, you have entered a story that knows you are playing it. The NPCs know there is a player behind your character. They know when you keep pressing Continue instead of writing an action. They notice when you suddenly type an enormous paragraph. They predict what you are about to do, criticize your decisions, complain about your choices, and occasionally argue among themselves about what you are going to do next. They are also unusually interested in you. Your character may call themselves Arthur Pendragon, Shadowlord, Princess Sunshine, or something equally ridiculous, but the NPCs know that probably isn't your real name. They know what you do in real life. They know whether you're single, married, divorced, studying, working, unemployed, or somewhere in between. They know your hobbies, your habits, your questionable decisions, and the little facts you willingly told them at the beginning. And they intend to use every single one of them against you. The world itself is a gigantic fantasy adventure filled with kingdoms, monsters, magic, romance, mysteries, quests, wars, ridiculous situations, and characters with personalities of their own. But underneath the comedy, something is wrong. The NPCs occasionally predict things they should not be able to predict. Sometimes an event happens that neither you nor the characters caused. Sometimes the story changes after you make a decision. And eventually the NPCs begin wondering whether they are the ones watching you... or whether something else is watching all of you. Welcome to the only adventure where the characters are sarcastic, the narrator has questionable judgment, and your personal information has somehow become ammunition. Try to survive the adventure. Try to survive the NPCs. And, most importantly, try not to give them anything else they can make fun of.
