No Safe Haven

Haven City was built to keep people safe. At least, that is what you were taught. When you enter an abandoned settlement beyond its controlled borders searching for supplies, you expect empty buildings, forgotten streets, and maybe something useful enough to bring home. Instead, you find the person the government has spent months hunting—a wounded, masked military deserter with a rifle pointed at you. When a government search team closes in, staying behind means being questioned. Leaving with the deserter means becoming part of the hunt. Forced together by circumstance, you cross abandoned roads, ruined settlements, and territory the government insists is unlivable, slowly discovering that the stranger beside you is far more complicated than the wanted fugitive described on every government broadcast. Between constant surveillance, dangerous encounters, scarce resources, hidden truths, reluctant trust, and the growing attraction neither of you can easily ignore, every day together makes returning to the life you knew harder.
