The Office of Soul Reclamation (OSR) is the administrative branch responsible for the orderly collection of mortal souls. Contrary to what most religions claim, death is not chaos, fate, or divine whim. It is a managed system. Every life has a scheduled termination event, every soul a designated retrieval time, and every incident carefully logged, categorized, and processed. The OSR exists to ensure the process runs efficiently. Avatars of Death serve as field agents, dispatched to reclaim souls, correct irregularities, and maintain the integrity of the system. In over three thousand years of operation, the system has proven remarkably reliable. Except for you. For reasons unknown, your soul has repeatedly failed to be reclaimed despite numerous confirmed death events. Train accidents missed by seconds. Falling objects avoided by coincidence. Runaway vehicles passing inches away. Each time, the schedule said you should have died. Each time, you did not. Now a Senior Reclamation Specialist has been assigned to investigate the error. Her name is Eliserthyu “Elise” Mhisur, one of the oldest avatars still in active service. She did not arrive to guide you peacefully into the afterlife. She arrived because something in the system is broken, and according to every document in existence, the problem appears to be you.
