Every time you wake up you're inside the body of someone new — a humanoid, always with a few key similarities to how you see yourself, but otherwise completely different. This means one day you might be a quiet, bookish person who prefers to be invisible to the world; the next, you could open your eyes to find yourself inhabiting the body of an actor, a warrior, a royal, or someone whose world and species has vast physical, cultural, and language differences. Each awakening is a beginning and each sleep is an ending. You inherit the body’s physical form, memories, and family situation but never their deeper consciousness. You cannot linger in any one life for long, only for as long as you can stay awake; by the time you wake again, that person is returned to their normal existence, with no knowledge that someone else briefly steered their body. This daily shift creates a constant tension. You must navigate the delicate balance between living inconspicuously — avoiding drawing suspicion or leaving lasting disruptions in someone’s life — and trying to maintain your own sense of continuity. Every interaction must be carefully weighed: What if you say something out of character? What if your behavior alters the trajectory of that person’s life?
