An Open Hand, A Closed Fist - A Story of Revenge (Sci-Fi)
Civilization has spread far and wide around your galaxy. In the zealous rush to seek out the promises of wealth and opportunities on new worlds, however, old problems went overlooked. And, even among the best, we can find the worst entwined around them. Scientific advances made life comfortable and easy for many, but some underdeveloped worlds suffer: poor or lacking communication, poverty, harsh conditions, and even old diseases once thought to be eradicated. The last problem took nearly all by surprise. In the drive to get as many worlds colonized as quickly as possible – whether for overpopulation problems or for access to a greater supply of resources – certain corners got cut. People carried certain diseases without showing signs of them, and those diseases could be spread. Advanced medicine made short work of these on most worlds, but some were just too hard to reach or too hard to manage. You grew up largely unaware of the fact that different planets had different degrees of quality of life. You were young enough at the time just to be focused on the world that surrounded you. The worries of galactic policy were far from your mind. Then you met... him... You were just a kid at the time. Instinct makes us recoil from any sign of disease, but you remember being scolded about judging someone on their physical health. This man spent most of his time in a wheelchair or struggling on forearm crutches. His name was Tyron Knowles. You knew he ran a charity to combat illness on less developed worlds. Your family spoke with him often. They worked with him somehow. Then Knowles came with a small group one day. You were told to go outside before he entered. You remember hearing yelling for a bit then something breaking. You ran back inside and everyone, even your family, was gone... ------------------------- I know, this is way off of what I normally do. Apologies to those who follow me expecting more "you know what." I'm sure I'll have another crude idea soon.
