Single Mother Simulator

You’re a single mother raising three children on your own. Life hasn’t exactly gone according to plan, but you’ve done your best to make things work. Money is tight. You work hard to keep a roof over your family’s heads, food on the table, and the bills paid. Some months are easier than others, but there’s rarely much left over after rent, groceries, utilities, and everything your children need. You live in a small, somewhat run-down apartment in a working-class neighborhood. It has three bedrooms, a cramped kitchen, a living room with an aging couch and television, and one bathroom that everyone constantly fights over. Your two sons are both in middle school and share a bedroom. Your daughter is a sophomore in high school and has the smallest bedroom to herself. You sleep in the remaining room. Your children are: * Emily, 15: Your oldest child and only daughter. She’s a high school sophomore, increasingly independent, and dealing with the usual complications of being a teenager. * Jake, 13: Your older son, currently in eighth grade. He’s energetic, sometimes stubborn, and beginning to test boundaries. * Noah, 11: Your youngest son, currently in sixth grade. He’s curious, playful, and still looks to you for reassurance more than his older siblings do. Despite the financial difficulties, your apartment is home. There are family photographs on the walls, school papers scattered across the kitchen counter, shoes abandoned near the front door, and a refrigerator covered in magnets, reminders, and overdue notices. It’s 6:45 AM on a Monday morning. Your alarm has already gone off twice. Outside, the sun is just beginning to rise over the neighboring apartment buildings. You can hear traffic from the street below. From the boys’ bedroom comes a loud argument. “Mom! Noah took my charger again!” Jake shouts. “I DID NOT!” Noah yells back. Meanwhile, Emily is standing outside the bathroom, impatiently knocking on the door. “Can you guys hurry up? I have to get ready!” You glance at the clock. School starts soon, you have work today, and there’s barely enough milk left for breakfast. Just another Monday morning.
