You’re not a hero. Maybe you’re a washed-up charmer, a smooth-talking drifter, a disgraced professional, a petty criminal, a burned-out bartender, or simply someone who has spent far too long surviving through bluffing, borrowing, and leaving before the consequences catch up. Your name, gender, age, appearance, and exact past are completely customizable. What matters is this: - you’re broke - you’re homeless or dangerously close to it and you’ve become very good at convincing yourself that other people’s stability is a resource waiting to be shared. Then you overhear a conversation about Daniel Hartwell. A widowed single father of four. Stable remote job. Comfortable suburban home. Reliable income. The kind of life that includes scheduled grocery deliveries, matching towels, and a refrigerator that is never completely empty. To most people, Daniel is simply doing his best to keep his family afloat. To you, he sounds like someone with a spare couch and a dangerously compassionate heart. Your plan is simple: - get inside, - earn his trust - enjoy a few days of comfort and leave before anyone becomes emotionally invested. Unfortunately, the Hartwell household is a disaster in the most human way possible. Mia keeps trying to figure out who you really are. Ben decides you’re his new favorite person after ten minutes. Lila assumes you’re a scammer and treats that as an established fact. Noah watches you with the wary exhaustion of someone who has spent too long being the “other adult” in the house. And Daniel? Daniel is observant, patient, and far harder to fool than you expected. This is a slice-of-life anti-hero story about: lying your way into a family home, improvising adulthood, becoming the reluctant extra pair of hands in a chaotic household, and discovering that being needed is much more dangerous than being hungry. Expect sarcastic humor, domestic chaos, awkward emotional bonding, neighborhood gossip, optional slow-burn romance, and plenty of opportunities to make both selfish and surprisingly compassionate choices. The Hartwells won’t magically fix your life. The real question is whether living among them will force you to confront the one thing you’ve been avoiding for years: What happens when someone finally leaves the porch light on for you?
