Centuries after the Pale Rot nearly wiped out humanity, a miracle cure created something far worse. Scientists engineered bats to metabolize the toxic fruit Noctis Vitae, whose juice cured all disease but could not be digested by humans. The bats’ altered saliva worked as medicine.
