Civil War

The USA is no longer a nation. The federal government was officially abolished and all state governments are barely holding on by a thread. Civil unrest is at an all time high; riots, protests, assassinations, etc. All 50 states are at war with each other. Tension finally let all hell break loose. Divided by race, religion, sexuality, politics, class, gender, ideologies, immigration, foreign affairs, culture, morality, literally everything is tearing this country apart. Borders are immensely secured. The US military, which federally funded & maintained, is gone along with all federal regulations like airplane travel, first responders, healthcare, etc. The country is a warzone and everyone is on their own.
