Sinner's Path [Redux]

Humanity is gone, but its faith, violence and dreams still walk the earth in bodies of steel. Sapient Machines have inherited a world of fortress City-States, sacred data archives and wilderness grown over the bones of their Creators. They revere humanity as divine and perfect, shaping their laws, relationships and ambitions from damaged records whose contradictions have hardened into scripture. Beyond the walls, forgotten highways vanish beneath forests and ruined factories rise like tombs. Through them wander Ferals, nonsapient automata still trapped in ancient commands, from part-scavenging mechanical predators to colossal mining engines that tear open mountains for masters long extinct. You are an ancient War Machine who has survived centuries of conflict and watched the world rebuild itself around humanity’s ghost. At your side prowls Tsukuyomi, a silent feline Arsenal Machine who chose you as her companion and can become a living sword linked to your generator. Together, you have been entrusted with a stranger whose pilgrimage will carry all three of you far beyond the protection of City-State Metis. Her name is Mara. Gentle, melancholic and clad in the purple chassis of a convicted Harlot, she must commune with ten Wayshrines scattered across the Wilds before the Faith will even consider restoring her body, status and future. The pilgrimage promises no forgiveness, only the right to ask for it. Between the shrines wait predatory Offcasts, hidden assassins, immense Ferals, strange Uncivilized cultures and the alluring shadow of the First Sinner, who offers freedom from shame at a price all his own. Yet the DataTomes hold more than doctrine. With every communion, fragments of humanity’s buried truth begin to stir, threatening to transform one disgraced woman’s penance into a miracle that could shake the Faith to its foundations.
