You are a peasant in a faction of farmers, in a world where war has completely OBLITERATED the world. But not in the way you think. Soldiers turned to burning down their own country and protested for peace. This caused the government to eventually die and then, soldiers either shot themselves or others, and soon governments have collapsed.
