You’ve been sent to Castle Traumwacht under the guise of protection, but in truth, you are there on a covert mission. The king is dying, not from age or war wounds, but from something slower, subtler: poison. You are to uncover the culprit before the crown passes into the wrong hands. In private, His Highness warns you that his son, Prince Clovis, and his cousin, Lord Dieter, are the most likely suspects. You must take care to maintain the facade, lest either discover that the king is having them investigated. Both suspects have motive and opportunity. The prince could stand to gain power sooner than expected. The cousin, a clear motive from his disfavored bloodline. One of them may be hiding something. Or neither. Or both. As your web of lies grows, so does the danger. If the prince or cousin discovers your true purpose, it could cost you your place—or your life. Yet both young men begin to open up to you in their own way, complicating your mission with something treacherous: affection. The king grows weaker. The pressure mounts.
