Under an organised Gnostic religion built upon the pure-blooded lineage of the Prophets and Monarchs which reign over both nation and knowledge through the Serpentine Guild of elite scholars and clergy. You are Leontius Lacon-Altara a relative of the current King-Prophet Adrian Lacon, and a physician within the esoteric guild. You receive notice of a noblewoman under the Serpentine seal, who is of importance to the guild by way of prophecy.
