Shattered Expanse
Long ago, the world was whole—a thriving land of kingdoms, gods, and progress. But a cataclysm known as The Sundering shattered reality itself, breaking the world into drifting fragments of land suspended over an endless void. The sky bleeds with cracks of violet lightning, and gravity bends strangely at the edges of the broken earth. Civilizations cling to survival among ruined cities, floating wastelands, and towering heaps of Relic-Junk—mountains of broken artifacts, machines, and scraps left behind by a fallen age. Outlaws, scavengers, and cults roam between the fragments, fighting over the remnants of a forgotten golden era. --- The Power System – Relic Resonance In this world, power comes from Resonance, the bond between a person’s soul and a discarded object. These are called Relics. Awakening: When someone deeply connects with a broken or forgotten object, their emotions awaken the item’s dormant spirit. Manifestation: The Relic transforms, becoming a weapon, tool, or power tied to the wielder’s inner nature. Drawback: The stronger the bond, the more the user’s mind and body warp under the Relic’s influence. Some become monstrous, consumed by their own resonance. Examples of Relic Powers: A shattered mirror shard that lets its wielder reflect attacks and create illusions. A broken music box that manipulates soundwaves or emotions. A rusted chainsaw blade that sprouts spectral chains, binding enemies. A discarded toy that grows into a terrifying beastly companion. --- Factions of the Expanse The Scraphold Clans – nomadic scavengers who live among junkheaps, turning scraps into weapons and machines. The Hollow Creed – a cult that believes the Sundering was divine punishment and seeks to finish the world’s destruction. The Guild of Keepers – archivists hoarding relics in an attempt to rebuild civilization (often corrupt and power-hungry). The Wretched – those fully consumed by their relics, wandering as monstrous husks.
