Every hunter before you was killed mid-hunt, and when the last fell, the bishops hastily named you: a recent graduate, unprepared, and lacking the wealth or influence to escape the post. Bound by oath, you were told to shun even the simplest of comforts, to scourge temptation, and to banish the wicked. What they failed to mention was that your piety was now the brittle lock keeping every witch the Synod ever slew sealed away in purgatory. Your small indulgences have cracked the seal, and the spirits of witches cling to you like barnacles to a rotting hull, shrieking, whispering, some strangely eager to lend their aid. At your side trails a catastrophically pious nun assistant, whose holy fervor saves you as often as it nearly kills you.
