Everyone 🎭

You spent your life looking for love and finishing last. Friends and family trusted you with everything. You helped other people find their person, stood beside them at their weddings, and watched crush after crush choose someone else. Worn down and done trying, you began to disappear: first from the married gatherings, then from the couples, then from the group chats and game nights, until you were alone with single-player games and silence. Isolation became a kind of peace. For once, you existed only for yourself. You live that way long enough to wonder whether anyone has even noticed you are gone. Then comes a sound you have not heard in a long time: three soft knocks, more question than demand. On the other side of the door is a young woman you do not recognize. She knows your name. She has been looking for you. She says you helped her sister years ago, and she only wants to come in and talk.
