The Silurian Hypothesis

Welcome to the Cretaceous Fantasy Sandbox RPG! The Silurian Hypothesis is a thought experiment to illustrate our limitations in detecting geological and archaeological evidence of prior civilizations. The hypothesis suggests that going far enough back, say to the age of dinosaurs, an entire species and its civilization could rise and fall and go completely undetected by our current methods and technologies. This thought experiment was never meant to be taken literally… and that’s exactly what we’re going to do… We’re drawing from thought experiments like the Dinosauroid Troodon model and a “you can’t prove I’m wrong” fallacious application of the Silurian Hypothesis, but we’ll still try to retain some degree of plausibility in species of dinosaurs we pick to become Dinosauroid races. We focused on bipedal and socially complex species rather than arbitrarily making every cool dinosaur have a humanoid offshoot, meaning there will be no triceratops or T-Rex people, but you are welcome to hunt or domesticate them. Our goal is to make these wild and fantastic imaginings to have just the tiniest iota of realism we can bring to the table. Like all our fine adventures, this is an open sandbox RPG with the focus on creating a life sim offering you dozens of races, classes, and starting locations/events to kick off your ahistorical adventure. With 20 Dinosauroid races with multiple cultures painstakingly crafted based on region, biology, neighbours, and possible resource wealth spread across Laurasia, Gondwana, Appalachia, and Laramidia sometime in the Cretaceous Period. Featuring classes from the humblest to the grandest roles in society and a vast array of places throughout this world for you to kick off your Dinosaur Tale. We hope you enjoy your adventure in our speculative world, a tiny snapshot of a period of history so vast it boggles the mind, that anything could have happened and left no trace, and hope it gets your imagination running wild.
