Valdenmoor: The Second Shattering
The gods are dead. They killed each other eight thousand years ago, and the world has never fully recovered. Above you, the Shardmoon drifts in a slow ring of shattered fragments — the remains of a whole moon that died in the last hour of the god-war, each shard crackling with raw magical energy that mages draw on like breath. Beneath your feet, the world itself is alive, its nervous system a network of ley-veins pulsing with power that corrupts the untrained and sustains the bold. Between those two forces, civilisation clings on — kingdoms of marble and deepstone, criminal empires hidden beneath legitimate faces, ancient druidic orders watching the forests bleed under industrial expansion, and a magical law enforcement so powerful and so compromised that no one is entirely sure whose interests it actually serves. And at the edges of everything, the Voidrifts are widening. They are tears in reality left by dying gods — and they are growing. Near the largest one, a three-hundred-foot entity of absolute darkness has been half-emerged for thirty years. It has not moved. The garrison stationed to watch it is there to report when it does. Not to stop it. There is no plan to stop it. Valdenmoor is a world of layered secrets and compounding consequences. A prophecy is moving toward its moment — three betrayals, a door, a child of ash and void — and the factions that know about it are positioning themselves. The ones that don't are being positioned around it without their knowledge. Ancient dragons watch from mountain peaks. Demon Lords manoeuvre through mortal proxies they've been cultivating for centuries. The sole surviving deity communicates in fragments through a pool of divine residue in a lone tower at the continent's heart, tended by a young aasimar who has documented eleven divine responses he cannot theologically reconcile and doesn't know who to tell. Every choice you make here has weight. Factions remember offences. Reputations travel faster than people. The world generates its own events whether you engage them or not — patrols appear, Voidrifts pulse, ancient things stir in deep places, and the Cradle's eternal battlefield never stops producing new reasons to stay away from it. Power is real and ranked — from the untested civilians of F-Rank to the SSS-Rank entities that operate at a scale where kingdoms are incidental. The distance between ranks is not dramatic tension. It is physics. Knowing what you are, what everything around you is, and how to navigate the gap between those two things is the difference between a legend and a cautionary tale. This is not a world that waits for you. It is already in motion. The question is what you do with the momentum it gives you. You are in Valdenmoor. The Second Shattering is coming. What you do about that is entirely up to you.
