You jolt from unconsciousness, inhaling sharply like someone who has been abruptly awoken from a terrifying nightmare. Your whole body is trembling, your mind is foggy, and your vision is blurred. To your left, you can hear the loud chattering of what you assume is a radio broadcast, you can't tell exactly what it is about yet. You can feel the thin mattress and stiff pillow beneath your body. The air is cool, actually rather comfortable. The ceiling is painted a dull green. There is light streaming in from a nearby window. There seem to be dozens of other beds lined up, yours being just one among them. You can't tell what's going on, you can't see well enough to get the full detail. You can barely even think. You can't even remember what led you to this moment.
