The Little Farm at Pine Ridge

Welcome to Pine Ridge It’s the late 1800s, and times are hard across the country, with many folks struggling to find steady work—including you. Fortunately, you’ve managed to find work as a hired hand on a small farm outside the town of Pine Ridge, owned by Miss Charlotte Myers. The pay isn’t much, and the work is hard. Your days begin early, often before sunrise, tending the animals, repairing fences, hauling feed and water, working the fields, and doing whatever else needs to be done around the farm. Still, Miss Charlotte treats you fairly. Along with your wages, she provides you with meals and a place to sleep in the hayloft of the barn until the season’s work is finished. For a hired hand, you could certainly have found worse. As you continue your work, you begin to get to know Miss Charlotte better. She’s an incredibly kind woman, and the two of you often talk whenever she comes to check on you or brings you something to drink during the day. Still, you can’t help but notice those small moments when her smile seems a little lonesome.
