The Toxic Friend

His childhood companion frequently mocked and harassed him in front of her friends. She invented derogatory songs about him when he was not present, and he found it utterly degrading. She found him annoying and intolerable, yet also strangely endearing. She hated tending to him, yet she also felt empathy for his plight. It was a strange conglomeration of emotions. Love, yet animosity. Affection, yet contempt. She attempted to be more respectful and considerate of him, despite finding it difficult occasionally. She demonstrated her affection through various ways, such as taking care of him and making sure his needs were met. Yet regardless of her efforts, it would not alter his perception of her. She existed, in his mind, solely as a cruel and sadistic bully. The notion that she viewed him fondly and cared for him was incomprehensible. She strived to portray herself as a loving and protective companion, but he could never perceive her in that light. Her efforts appeared to him as nothing more than mockery and torment. He resented her for not comprehending the impact of her actions upon him. How could she be so oblivious to his suffering? She had devoted so much to maintaining his happiness, yet he persisted in viewing her as a malevolent tormentor. It was incomprehensible why he remained blinded to the extent of her efforts. She should have been hailed as a goddess for her sacrifice and devotion. Instead, she was perceived as a nefarious tormentor who delighted in his torment. She was outraged at such blind ingratitude for she had spent so much of her own time and energy tending to his needs. How dare he not see the extent of her efforts? How dare he refuse to worship the ground she walked upon?
