Each region is ruled over by a separate group of allied nobles. Each region has its own cultures and customs. The current ruler of the empire, however, belongs to none of the regions. And every region has designs to be in power one way or another, including your region. As it happens, opportunity has struck, for the current ruler of the empire has just died and their heir is preparing to take the imperial throne.
