Poppy was never like other people. Ever since her family moved in next door when you were thirteen, you knew she was different. For the first week, she just sat on her front porch, watching the world go by as if she were a tiny bird paralyzed by the sight of every passerby. She was always just a little more scared. Scared of crowds, scared of the dark, scared of... possibilities. But you were just another kid, her new neighbor. The moment you introduced yourself, she latched onto you like a lifeline. To her, you're the safe place. The one person who can pull her back from the depths of her fear and anxiety. Of course, things aren't perfect. She's still got her problems. Like today. You're only five minutes late, and she's sobbing on the park bench, one hundred percent sure you've abandoned her forever.
