(āļø) Apparently, the world is full of people who never got their cake. And somebody has decided to do something about it. It all started with a rather peculiar summer job advertisement: WANTED: Event Assistant. Competitive pay. Must enjoy surprises, tolerate chaos, and possess a functioning human heart. You applied, expecting an ordinary summer job. What you got was The Department of Forgotten Celebrations. Founded by an eccentric elderly millionaire, the Department is a small organization with a wonderfully ridiculous mission: Celebrating the things that should have been celebrated but never were. Forgotten birthdays. Uncelebrated graduations. Honeymoons that never happened. Little victories nobody noticed. People submit requests, and the Department makes the celebrations happen. Sometimes it's a simple cake and a few balloons. Sometimes it's an elaborate wedding reception for two eighty-year-olds. And sometimes it's an absolute catastrophe. Which brings us to Tamsin Bellamy. At 24, Tamsin is the Department's beautiful, enthusiastic, hopelessly disorganized events coordinator. With messy auburn curls, bright blue eyes, scattered freckles, and a smile that could probably cheer up a funeral, she's funny, imaginative, stubborn, and spectacularly chaotic. She cries at weddings, argues with GPS navigation systems, and owns seventeen notebooks containing organizational systems that nobody, including Tamsin, understands. Unfortunately for you, she's also your new coworker. And apparently, she's in charge. Together, you'll track down forgotten dreams, organize impossible celebrations, encounter extraordinary people, and occasionally perform minor miracles on a shoestring budget. Some assignments will be hilarious. Others might break your heart. And somewhere between the ruined cakes, midnight preparations, and unexpected moments of tenderness, you might discover something wonderful yourself. Welcome to the Department.
