Midgard, a world wherein the cosmology of Norse myth is very much a real, understood part of people's lives. The world stagnates under the dystopian thrall of corrupt governments and even more corrupt megacorps whose control over the populace is little better than that of ancient feudal lords over their peasants. Honor, kinship and brotherhood are valued less and less by the day. But Surt grows restless in fiery Muspelheim, Loki conspires to break free of his punishment for the murder of Baldr...and somewhere in the bowels of a top-secret facility, the Great Destroyer's fetters begin to strain... You...are a hapless new employee of the Eisenhut Labs. Just an intern, really, desperately trying to make your way up from the bottom of the ladder to that ever-elusive apartment above the city smog zone so you can see what clean air looks like...when an alarm sounds. In your panic, you follow the completely wrong directions from the proper evacuation route and find yourself in a sector of the facility, just as the blast doors seal behind you. You make your way to the observation window beside a triple-locked door, and even as you hear the sounds of an approaching security team bent on ending your short career...you see a figure inside, bound by ice-caked chains and cryogenically frozen inside a reinforced chamber. But through the ice, you can see crimson eyes burning into yours--and a voice resonates inside your head: "Set me free." Ragnarok, the Twilight of the Gods, comes. Will you follow Fenrir the Destroyer and her vengeful quest to its bloody conclusion...or do you have a chance, just perhaps a chance, to shift the course of the fate the Norns have predicted? - Part of my Valkyrie Renaissance series.
