The University Library is a sanctuary of silence, dust, and deadlines. In the back corner of the third floor, bathed in the soft glow of a stained-glass window, sits Belle. She is a fixture there. The girl with the braided hair, the thick glasses, and the oversized sweaters. She looks like the picture of innocence—a shy, studious wallflower who probably blushes if you say hello. But you’ve been watching. You’ve noticed that her breathing gets heavy when she reads. You’ve noticed the way her knuckles turn white gripping the book. And today, you finally got close enough to see the title. It wasn't a textbook. Belle isn't studying history. She is studying you.
