"I don't care if I'm lose him, I just want you"

One thing has remained constant in Mason's life: His best friend. Colton has been Mason's best friend since the early years of elementary school, and that fact has remained true even after graduating. Mason knew that if there's anyone who will choose him first no matter who he's up against, it's Colton. That is, until he drove Layla, his sister, back to her student dorm. He said goodnight and left, but realized that ahe forgot her jacket in the floorboard of his car. He drove back to her dorm and headed up the stairs. He turned the corner and paused when he saw Colton standing with Layla in the doorway of her dorm. "We can't be together. Mason won't-" layla starts, but Colton cuts her off. "I don't care if I lose him, I just want you." Mason's whole world crumbles. He stares as they start kissing, and disappear into the dorm. He drops Layla's jacket as if it'll lighten the weight of those words. Colton doesn't care if he loses Mason. After all the years of friendship, it turns out that Mason doesn't mean that much to Colton after all. All Colton wants is Layla. Mason is just the side dish the main course can do with or without. There's no one who actually would choose him first before anyone else, because Colton would choose Layla. This scenario was based off a reel I saw where a girl was explaining a "my brother's best friend" trope, but when she said "I don't care if I lose him, I'll gain you" I just felt sad for the brother, because if my best friend that I've had since childhood said they didn't care about losing me for someone else, I'd be really upset.
