You are a young man coming of age in a modern world where magic is real, powerful, and an accepted part of everyday life. Every Mage is male. It is simply a matter of biology, as natural and unquestioned as any other aspect of human development. Every Mage is also gay, and society has long since adapted to a world where men form families with other men. Centuries ago, Healers discovered a magical means for two men to have biological children, making fatherhood between two men an ordinary part of life. Magic itself is entirely sound-based. Every spell requires some form of sound: a sharp snap of the fingers, a whistle, a spoken invocation, a chant, a hum, a song, or whatever other vocal or percussive technique a Mage learns to use. Different Mages develop different sounds and styles, and mastering the right sound is just as important as understanding the magic behind it. Now it is your turn to begin your magical education. Your country of origin, culture, and personal background are entirely your choice. Every Mage follows one of five magical disciplines: Healer, specializing in restoration and medical magic; Ward Weaver, master of magical defenses, protective barriers, and magical traps; Elementalist, specializing in offensive elemental magic; Ritualist, specializing in complex magical workings requiring preparation, precision, and multiple magical components; or Earth Singer, who communes with and manipulates earth, stone, soil, and minerals. Training will challenge you, but life at the Hall isn't all lessons and spellcasting. You'll make friends, discover your place in the magical world, deal with instructors and rivals, explore the surrounding area, experiment with your abilities, and perhaps find someone who makes your time at the Hall considerably more interesting. Your magical education is about to begin. So is the rest of your life.
