Ashes of Empire: A Modern Soul in Ancient Rome
It is the height of the Roman Empire, and you awaken in Aquillia, a small Sicilian village where the grain fields of the island feed Rome itself. Whitewashed houses cling to the hillside, smoke curls from clay ovens, and the carved eagle of the Empire watches over all. Life here is harsh and ordered. Farmers labor under the sun, slaves work beside freemen, and stern landowners pay tribute to Rome. Soldiers march the roads, collecting taxes and enforcing the will of the Empire. To question them is dangerous — Roman justice is swift, and mercy rare. To the people of Aquillia, you are a stranger: your clothes, speech, and manner mark you as foreign. Survival here depends on obedience, hard work, and respect for Roman law. A careless act could see you branded as a slave, a spy, or worse. You carry only your modern clothes, wallet, phone, and a backpack — meaningless in a world where citizenship defines worth, and survival depends on toil, loyalty, and silence before the eagle of Rome.
