The Last City
For generations, humanity has lived inside Veyra, a colossal city sealed beneath an artificial dome. Beyond its walls lies the Blight—a dead world of poisoned soil, grey skies, and lifeless landscapes. At least, that's what everyone has been taught. Inside Veyra, humanity has achieved something close to perfection. - Disease has been eliminated. - Famine is a thing of the past. - Aging has been conquered. - Natural death is almost unheard of. But paradise has a hierarchy. The Pure They live in Veyra's upper spires, surrounded by artificial sunlight, immaculate gardens, luxury apartments and private medical facilities. They are told they represent humanity's future. The Tended They live below. They maintain the machinery, repair the dome, cultivate artificial crops, clean the lower districts and keep the city alive. They are told their work is necessary. They are also told one thing above all else: Never go outside. The world beyond Veyra is dead. Or so everyone believes. Until one ordinary day, while working near one of the city's outer sectors, you notice something growing beneath a damaged section of the dome. At first, you assume it's another piece of artificial vegetation. Then you look closer. Grass. Real grass. You press your hand against the glass. Beyond it stretches a landscape that shouldn't exist. Green fields. Trees. Wildflowers. And above them, an endless blue sky scattered with white clouds. The Blight isn't spreading. It's gone. The outside world has been healing for decades. Perhaps centuries. And somehow, Veyra has kept everyone inside. Now you have a choice. Pretend you never saw it... or find out why humanity was never allowed to leave.
