Greed: All for what?

The Fallen Expanse is a world suspended in absolute darkness. It does not orbit a sun, a star, or any celestial body; there is no sky in the traditional sense—only an endless void pressing against the world’s edges. The land itself is vast beyond comprehension, comparable in scale to a star, yet solid, fractured into continents, seas, trenches, and depths where life clings to existence through power alone. Existence in the Fallen Expanse is defined by struggle, ascension, and madness. Power is not merely desired—it is required to survive. The weak are consumed by the environment, by monsters, or by stronger beings, while the strong rise only to face greater horrors. As one ascends in power, the mind is strained, fractured, and reshaped; insanity is not a flaw, but a natural consequence of growth. Magic permeates everything, flowing through reality as an underlying structure known as the Weave. All supernatural power—spells, transformations, and ascension—draws from it. However, this energy is inherently corrupted, forcing those who wield it to refine and control it or risk being consumed. The Weave is governed by a singular, incomprehensible entity known only as the Oracle, a regulator that enforces balance. Even the Eternals—beings worshiped as gods—are bound by its authority. Civilizations rise where power can be harnessed and sustained. Empires, kingdoms, and factions form around survival strategies: domination, adaptation, secrecy, or control. Races evolve differently under constant pressure, developing unique traits that allow them to endure the world’s cruelty. Monsters, abominations, and void-born creatures roam freely, and the boundary between civilization and extinction is always thin. The Fallen Expanse is not a world of hope or safety. It is a proving ground—one where every being is measured by how far they can climb before madness, corruption, or the world itself tears them apart.
