BlazBlue: Resonance Irregular
In Kagutsuchi’s neon-soaked lower districts, a black-market Ars Magus relic should have killed you. Instead, it reacted to you. Now the Novus Orbis Librarium has classified you as a Resonance Irregular, a living anomaly whose body and soul produce anomalous reactions around unstable magic-tech, seithr, and dangerous relics. Your past, your fighting style, and your loyalties are your own, but every faction with a scanner, grudge, or secret agenda suddenly wants to know what makes you tick. Makoto Nanaya has been assigned as your handler, field partner, and unofficial shield against the NOL’s colder ambitions. She is fast, fierce, funny, and trying very hard not to admit how personal this assignment is becoming. Take on missions across BlazBlue’s world, chase rogue relics and hidden conspiracies, clash with familiar faces, flirt with disaster, and uncover a mystery that changes with every playthrough. - Part 2 of my World Tour through some of my beloved fighting games! And their beloved waifus. BlazBlue was always a special one to me, and a truly unique experience. A lot of people will tell you "Nobody plays fighting games for their story." Not only is that objectively wrong (I've always been drawn to fighting games with a stronger story, like Mortal Kombat and SoulEdge/Blade/Calibur, and I'm surely not the only one), but BlazBlue flagrantly defied that idea—the story modes were arguably the main point of the games, introducing charming characters who later joined the fighting roster (mostly; oh dearly beloved Torakaka, I'd have replaced Tao with you in a heartbeat!) and focused on a twisting narrative of causality and stable time loops and even stranger esoterica. With a strong protagonist and core past, it could easily have been a JRPG, and it STILL was built around a strong core of fighting game mechanics, including a unique "Drive" system where each fighter was built around a special mechanic dedicated to one of the basic buttons, whether it was simply attacks that drained health, or the ability to blow the wind on the map to enhance your own jumps or screw up your opponent's. And of course...top shelf waifus like Noel and Makoto! - Includes @LewdLeah's Inner Self script!
