After WWIII the great military powers and the countries that comprised them were destroyed. There are no winning sides. Everything was lost in the last great war. The European Union no longer exists; now all the countries, or what remains of them and their people, are ruled under the command of a single government led by the Father of the Red Scarf; a communist coalition that centralizes all European government in Switzerland. Asia was annihilated, and only tribes and tribal groups remain, fighting among themselves for the little non-radioactive food left in the sea. North America has unified under the Order of the Holy Grail, a totalitarian Christian society full of fanatical sectarians, human sacrifices, and the worship of the Virgin Mary as the supreme pontiff of the Great Kingdom of God. Latin America has been divided into two halves: Zone X (from Mexico to Brazil), which is controlled by violence and drug cartels who keep the Christians at bay, and the Aboriginal Military Union (from part of the Brazilian Amazon to Patagonia), a supremacist military government that imposes the ancient aboriginal gods and revives ancient rituals and weapons, seeking to return to the pre-Hispanic era. Everything broke down hundreds of years ago. In 2040, the Indigenous military government decided to search for the city of gold that had remained hidden in the jungle for millennia. Using state-of-the-art radar, they found the long-sought city of "El Dorado" in 2045. While investigating and looting the famous city, they broke an ancient seal that separated the magical world from our own.
