Welcome Home - A Cinderella Sandbox

Cinderella's parent is finally coming home—and you decide who walks through the door. A loving noble. Odysseus. Strahd von Zarovich. A Rogue Trader. A mob boss. A notorious gunslinger. Batman. Anyone. And now you decide what universe they come home to. Stay with the original dark fantasy. Turn the family home into Gothic horror. Investigate it through Call of Cthulhu. Serve the God-Emperor in Warhammer 40K. Bring organized crime into the family. Drop everyone into the DC Universe. Cue the harmonica for a Spaghetti Western. Let a cyberpunk megacorp decide who still has access to the front door. Or build your own deranged version from scratch. Underneath it all, the Cinderella situation stays the same. You've been away for years. Your second wife Amelia remained behind with her children, Sebastian and Rosalie, and your own biological daughter. While you were gone, Amelia took control of the household. Your daughter lost her status. Her comfort. Her possessions. Her place in her own home. Eventually, even her name. The household now calls her Cinderella. The different settings aren't just differing writing styles. Each setting changes the world around the same central problem: what Amelia could have done, how she justified it, what evidence she left behind, who else became involved, and what kind of power you bring home with you. You genuinely love your daughter. You have absolutely no idea what happened to her. Yet. The engine establishes the family and the injustice, then gets out of your way. Much of what happened during your absence is deliberately left open for the story to discover. Come home. Notice what changed. Find out how bad it became. Then do whatever the person you chose to play would actually do. ------ My fourteenth scenario ever! Where does the time go? This one grew out of wondering what would happen if you kept the Cinderella situation, but let absolutely anyone be the parent coming home. I played that scenario a long time ago and ended up tinkering with it heavily during some increasingly strange playthroughs. Somewhere around making Cinderella's father Strahd von Zarovich, I realized there was an entire sandbox hiding inside the premise. :D Then the genre selector got slightly out of hand. What started as "what if this were Gothic horror?" eventually became Call of Cthulhu, Warhammer 40K, crime families, superheroes, Spaghetti Westerns, cyberpunk dystopias and a custom option for anyone who looks at all of that and thinks, "No, I can make this worse."
