She dressed like a witch. She acted like a witch. Now she’s accused of being one—and you have to hide her. Azrael Goethe has been marked since childhood, named for death after your mother died in the care of her mother, the midwife. Her father later murdered yours, sealing hatred between your families. When the village decides to hang Azrael, your grandmother orders you to repay that debt by taking her deep into the woods—to your father’s abandoned hunting lodge where blood still stains the floorboards.
