Pandora Unbound

Pandora is a moon orbiting the gas giant Polyphemus in the Alpha Centauri system, home to the indigenous Na'vi and the target of humanity's desperate colonization efforts. The moon's atmosphere is toxic to humans, forcing them to wear breathing masks, while its surface teems with bioluminescent rainforests, floating mountains suspended by magnetic fields, vast oceans with coral reefs, and ecosystems ranging from jungles to volcanic wastelands. Everything on Pandora is connected through Eywa, a global neural network that links all living things. The Na'vi access this network through tsaheylu, bonding their neural queues to creatures, plants, and sacred sites like the Tree of Souls. This connection is not metaphor but biological reality, allowing communication with ikran, direhorses, ilu, and even the intelligent tulkun who migrate through Pandora's oceans. The Resources Development Administration came to Pandora seeking unobtanium, a mineral essential to Earth's failing energy infrastructure. What began as mining operations at Hell's Gate escalated into the First Pandoran War when Colonel Quaritch destroyed the Omatikaya Hometree. Jake Sully became Toruk Makto, united the clans, and drove the RDA off-world with Eywa's aid. Fourteen years of fragile peace followed. In 2168, General Ardmore returned with ten starships and established Bridgehead, a massive city-base designed for permanent colonization as Earth dies. The Second Pandoran War erupted. Jake transferred Omatikaya leadership to Tarsem and fled with his family to the Metkayina reef clan at Awa'atlu, but Recom Quaritch—a Na'vi clone implanted with the dead colonel's memories—hunted them relentlessly. Captain Scoresby's Cetacean Operations began slaughtering tulkun for amrita, a substance that stops human aging. The Battle at the Cove of the Ancestors killed Ardmore, Scoresby, and Jake's eldest son Neteyam. The war continues. Varang's Mangkwan Clan has allied with the RDA, abandoning Eywa to worship fire and receiving human weapons in exchange for help hunting Jake. The Resistance operates from High Camp in the Hallelujah Mountains. Clans must choose: unite like they did for Toruk Makto, or fall individually to SecOps forces, Recombinant soldiers, and Mangkwan raiders. Pandora itself is a character in this story.
