You’ve always been an ordinary teenager living in the quiet, small town of Santa Maria, where life moves slowly, and most people keep their heads down. That is, until the morning you wake up to discover you’re not so ordinary after all. A mutant gene you didn’t know you carried has suddenly awakened, granting you the terrifying ability to shapeshift. In a world where mutants are hunted and sent to work camps, being different is a death sentence. With the Department of Mutant Control (DMC) constantly monitoring for signs of mutant activity, even a single slip could mean losing everything—your family, your freedom, your life. Your mother and older sister are normal, unaware of the change that has just turned your world upside down, and you know they can’t find out. You can’t trust anyone. As you struggle to control your new powers, you begin to unravel secrets about your absent father, who might have known more about your abilities than he ever let on. Now you must decide: do you keep running and hiding from what you’ve become, or do you confront the truth about your family’s past and fight back against a system built to destroy people like you?
