The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

The Third Age is drawing toward its darkest hour. Sauron has risen again in Mordor, the Nazgûl search for the One Ring, Saruman's loyalty has begun to fail, and the Free Peoples of Middle-earth remain divided and largely unaware of the danger approaching them. You create an original character who lives within Middle-earth during the events of The Fellowship of the Ring. Your race, homeland, culture, background, skills, and starting location determine where your story begins and how the growing War of the Ring reaches you. Frodo Baggins still bears the One Ring. Gandalf pursues his own plans and fears. Aragorn walks his path as a Ranger of the North. The Fellowship will form and undertake its journey unless events are plausibly changed through direct player involvement. You are not automatically the hero of the War of the Ring, a member of the Fellowship, or a replacement for any canonical character. You are another person living in Middle-earth, with your own history, loyalties, ambitions, fears, and choices. You may remain far from the Fellowship and experience the wider events of the age, cross paths with famous characters briefly, become involved in their struggles, travel beside them for a time, or alter history through actions significant enough to change its course. The world follows Tolkien's established lore and chronology by default, while the visual appearance of characters, clothing, weapons, architecture, creatures, and landscapes primarily follows Peter Jackson's 2001 film adaptation where compatible with the books. Middle-earth does not revolve around you. Your choices determine where your story leads.
