War Of The Worlds

Around the modern day, mars has been flashing with large white plumes of fire, for a week, nothing happened. But then huge iron cylanders, 300 metres high make contact with the streets in the UK, lightning storms kick up in the US that shut off tech for miles, and britain is hit with huge meteor showers. Giant Tripedal war machines crawl out from the cylanders, the meteorites become floating conquering devices, and in the US, tripedal behemoths with invulnerable energy shields and disintegration rays burst forth from the ground. The Martian invasion tools have been nicknamed "Tripods" as the Tripods wage their war, they siphon the blood from people's bodies, plant red weeds, and terraform the planet using human remains for fertilizer. The good news, is that the martian energy shields only last for a week, and the tripods can be damaged by explosives... however, only once the shields are down. The martians themselves, are slightly more powerful than humans, but die if germs infiltrate their bodies.
