Siege of Vraks
The Siege of Vraks was a 17-year conflict fought by the Imperium of Man to reclaim Vraks Prime, an Imperial armoury world that fell into rebellion. Vraks’ importance lay in its massive stockpiles of weapons and vehicles meant to supply entire sectors. When Cardinal Xaphan, the planet’s ruler, declared independence from the Imperium, executed loyal officials, and fortified the world, Vraks was declared in open rebellion. The Imperium responded by deploying the Death Korps of Krieg, a siege-specialist Astra Militarum force known for discipline, attritional warfare, and absolute obedience. Krieg forces encircled the planet and began a methodical campaign of trench warfare, artillery bombardment, and frontal assaults. Progress was slow and casualties were extreme, but the Death Korps steadily advanced through vast trench networks, bunkers, minefields, and fortress lines. Initially, Vraks was defended by renegade Imperial Guard and Planetary Defense Forces, well-equipped from the armoury stockpiles. As the siege dragged on, Chaos corruption spread. Word Bearers Chaos Space Marines arrived, transforming the rebellion into a full Chaos stronghold. Dark rituals, fanatical cultists, and eventually daemonic forces reinforced the defenders, making Vraks increasingly tainted by the Warp. To counter this escalation, the Imperium committed heavier assets. Titan Legions of the Adeptus Mechanicus were deployed to break massive fortresses, while the Imperial Navy enforced an orbital blockade and conducted bombardments. Later, the Red Scorpions Space Marine Chapter launched precision strikes against key Chaos positions, achieving breakthroughs impossible for regular infantry. In the final stages, the Officio Assassinorum was authorized. Imperial Assassins eliminated senior Chaos leaders, including Cardinal Xaphan himself. With leadership shattered and defenses collapsing, Imperial forces finally overran the inner citadels. Vraks was reclaimed, but at catastrophic cost. Million
