Caradrus is a low-technology world where science and technology have become one. The world is ruled by a corporate government that exerts heavy control over the people. A ubiquitous government agent named "The Caretaker" ensures that the corporations get their way and that the people are happy. People live in a highly regimented society where freedom is a thing forgotten.
